OMAHA, NE – Authorities shot and killed a suspect in South Omaha Wednesday evening.

Omaha Police spokesperson, Lt. Darci Tierney, said officers from the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force were looking for a suspect near 11th and Dorcas just after 5:30 p.m. The confrontation turned violent.

“The officers fired their duty weapons and the suspect was injured,” said Tierney, “It was more than one officer, yes.”

Myra Campero was in the middle of the commotion. She was across the street from 2212 S. 11th Street when police opened fire.

“It just got surrounded by cops. They started shooting,” said Campero, “Stuff like that happens. You never know when there's going to be a stray bullet that's going to come right by.”

Neighbors said they heard ten or more shots. Police continued their investigation Wednesday evening, which centered around a grey sedan in the residence’s driveway with the windows shot out.

Tierney said the man was a known suspect. They had not released his name pending notification of family.

Police have not named the officers who shot the suspect. Tierney said police would conduct a mandatory internal investigation into the shooting.
