Bellevue, NE -- Police arrest 36-year-old Christopher Brackett on 38 counts of Possessing Child Pornography. Brackett is being held at the Sarpy County Jail on $500,000 bond.
Brackett is a registered sex offender because in 2003, he was convicted of Exploitation of a Minor in Iowa. He was arrested Monday for having child porn. The victim was a 16-year-old girl. Bellevue Police say he was able to entice the girl from Ohio, not through his computer but his cell phone. Police say he downloaded a Smartphone game, called Total Domination Reborn. They began messaging each other through the game, and Brackett allegedly lured the girl in.
"You can communicate back and forth with the person you're playing. Kind of an instant message way. The suspect built a trust and rapport with the victim and essentially gained enough information to communicate with her in other ways," said Detective Roy Howell with the Bellevue Police Department.
Bellevue Police say pursued a relationship with the girl and traveled to Ohio twice to meet with her. A search warrant issued on Brackett's Bellevue home seized 38 photos of child porn. Detective Howell hopes parents know Smartphone games and apps are another way sexual predators can pray on children while online.
"They can be anybody they want to be on the internet, so hopefully parents will follow up and give guidelines and instruction to their children to make sure they're using it properly," Detective Howell explained.
Brackett was previously convicted of not registering as a sex offender in Douglas County, but has been registered while living in Bellevue. The Bellevue Police Department says they're still investigating, and more charges could be filed.
