Murdock, NE-A bean field became the overnight grave for a Cass County man killed on his motorcycle.
Tonight, the family of John M. Thompson, 36, gathered at the scene as they came to grips with the unthinkable. Thompson had been missing all night and morning, until this afternoon's discovery at Highway One and Bluff Road in Murdock.
Police believe Thompson left Bulldogs bar early Friday morning. His friends there say Thompson liked to ride his bike fast, and was in good spirits last night.
"It's really hard. I mean sometimes we always thought this might happen, and then it happens and it's harder to cope with and I hope his family is doing well," Lorie Ritnour said.
Police say around 2 a.m. the call went out that Thompson never made it home.
"We got a call last night of a male that was missing. We'd been looking for him all night," Lt. Jeff Lickei with Cass County Sheriff said.
Police say a friend, who had been at the bar last night with Thompson, found his motorcycle here in a bean field this afternoon and called them. Their initial investigation shows Thompson lost control when turning the southbound curve on Highway One. Police believe alcohol and speed were a factor.
Friday night, Thompson's family is asking for privacy. His girlfriend told KMTV he loved his bike and was a dare devil.
