OMAHA, Neb. – (KMTV) Robin Williams’ comedy and movies touched many, but the actor was more for others—he was an inspiration.
Dylan Rohde is an owner of The Backline in downtown Omaha. He spent four years in Los Angeles on stage with “The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre,” where Williams was a regular surprise guest. Rhode always hoped to take the stage with him, but it would never be.
“I would go every single show they had,” said Rhode. “For awhile it was every week, and then it dropped down to once a month. I was going to every show, and I missed one. And that week Robin Williams showed up. It was crushing to me.”
Rhode now spends his time performing at The Backline in downtown Omaha, where he also teaches improv classes. He remembers Williams as more than a standout comedian and actor. He believes he forever impacted the comedy craft.
“He made a big change in the pace of comedy. I loved it because it was fast. It was laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, and laugh. And you couldn’t stop just watching this chaos on stage,” Rhode said.
