Garcia to Appear in Court Thursday Morning

Omaha, NE - Anthony Garcia is expected in court Thursday morning. And both sides are getting ready for the hearing.

The former Creighton University Medical Center doctor is charged with carrying out two double murders in Omaha.

A November 21st tweet from a member of Garcia's defense team, Alison Motta, quotes Garcia as saying, "My attorneys and I were talking, we are gonna to kick their (expletive)."

Prosecutors charged Garcia with killing Creighton professor Roger Brumback and his wife Mary in May and Shirlee Sherman and Thomas Hunter in 2008. Hunter was the son of another Creighton professor, Dr. William Hunter. Sherman was their housekeeper.

Prosecutors say Hunter and Brumback fired Garcia in 2001, and the killings were out of revenge.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says he does not believe a trial date will be set at Thursday's hearing. "I don't think so at this point. There are still a lot of other matters that need to be taken care of before we set a trial date."

KMTV Action 3 News spoke to Alison Motta by phone Wednesday night. She said the defense has been going through evidence, and they believe there are more viable suspects than Anthony Garcia. She hopes the court will set dates on Thursday to move the case along.
