Eppley Travelers Preparing for Delays, Cancellations on Busy Travel Day

OMAHA, NE – A big day of holiday travel at Eppley Airfield could be hampered by snow and ice along the East Coast. Lexi Hermann traveled from Hastings to pick up a relative traveling to Omaha from Philadelphia.

“He said there are people everywhere and airplanes just coming in and out, in and out, in and out,” she said.

Weather delayed the flight. Several passengers were delayed, others like Dustin Gardner arrived early trying to escape potential flight delays Wednesday.

“I’ll be at the beginning of the line. There's no reason not to,” Gardner said. If you don't get it in time you might get bumped off because they're overbooking everything. It's going to be mayhem.”

Gardner was trying to get from UNL to his home in San Diego. Even with the warm climate, he worried about potential delays in his connecting flight scheduled Wednesday in Phoenix.

“I'm looking at the stuff already and they've got stuff that's late coming from the east,” said Djuana Kauffman who traveled from Woodstock, Iowa to pick up her son, arriving on-time from Denver.

AAA predicts 44 million travelers over the Thanksgiving weekend, 3 million of them by air. Airlines like United, Delta, and U.S. Airways which all fly out of Eppley announced they may waive rebooking fees for travelers trying to stay ahead of the storms.
