Bellevue, NE-When you first hear "mead," you might not know what it is. You're not alone.
"Most people will be like what? But then they try it and the reaction is, wow!" Brian Schlueter, mead maker says.
Mead is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented honey. It has a similar alcoholic content to wine but doesn't taste like either wine or beer.
"It's up and coming, it's niche market," Schlueter says.
The first evidence of what is called the oldest alcoholic beverage dates back to 2000 B.C. It's made from just water and honey. From there, there are different varieties including Melomel (made with fruit or fruit juice) , Cyser (apples), Capsumel (chile peppers), and Metheglins (spices ).
The store has gained quite the following and awards. Moonstruck has placed among the top medals in contests in Argentina and Ukraine. It's celebrating two years of success Monday, November 28th.
