Bellevue Apartment Fire
Bellevue, NE - The State Fire Marshal is investigating an early morning fire at the Chateau Apartments.
It started in the kitchen of a second floor unit, just after midnight.
When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building.
The fire had quickly spread from the apartment to the attic and through the roof.
Bellevue Assistant Fire Chief Steve Betts tells us most of the people who live at the apartment complex were out of the building when they got there.
But firefighters and police officers did have to help a few people get out safely.
Crews from Omaha and Papillion were also called in to help fight the fire that caused a lot of damage inside and out.
In fact, firefighters had to bust a hole in the roof, the size of a car, to get the fire under control.
The fire itself only affected three units, but crews had to shut off water and electricity to the entire complex, so everyone had to leave for the night.
No word when they will be allowed back in.
No one was hurt.
