Dr. Garcia Had Multiple Contacts with Terre Haute PD
Omaha, NE -- We’re learning more about Garcia's time in Terre Haute, Indiana. He had a number of contacts with Terre Haute Police Dept. this year. This was after he withdrew his medical license application in Indiana because it was going to be denied.
Terre Haute authorities say it all starts with an accident on January 11, 2013 when Garcia backed into a parked car in a parking lot, and took off. The day after the accident, Garcia called 911 to say he was having trouble breathing. They forced their way in because he could not open the door. Almost two weeks later, on the 24th of January, he called police to report the previous accident.
Then Terre Haute police got a suspicious person call on January 25. Neighbor girls say they saw Garcia leaving flowers on their doorstep.
Five days later Garcia got in another car accident in Terre Haut. The accident report indicates he rear-ended a woman while driving a 2008 Mercedes Benz. HE proceeded to give her his wallet saying, "Take it, I can't deal with this”. He left the scene. Garcia later returned, got his wallet back, and filed a theft report saying he wasn't sure if he had credit cards or cash in it.
Finally, someone reported a theft at Garcia's house on February 8th. The man believed his watch and money were taken by a housekeeper. Police say the man was drunk, and they told him to file a report when he sobered up.
This all happened before Garcia told a Bedford Park, Illinois police officer that he was an alcoholic, while being pulled over for DUI. Bedford Park is in the Chicago area.
Garcia was pulled over for DUI on Monday night in southern Illinois. He had a handgun in his possession. He’s since been extradited to Nebraska to face 4 charges of 1st Degree Murder, and 4 counts of Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony.
A Lieutenant with the Douglas County Jail said he couldn't say what kind of treatment Garcia is getting behind bars, only that he's being held there.
Garcia has declined our interview request. He will formally face his charges July 23rd in court.
