New Ideas Unveiled for Crossroads Redevelopment

Omaha, NE - In the vacant Old Navy store at Crossroads Mall, the vision for a new beginning sat on display Thursday night. The intersection at 72nd and Dodge, once the true crossroads of the city, will get a makeover.
Restaurants, entertainment, parks, new infrastructure, mass transit and even housing are all possibilities.
"The plans are all so very exciting but we can't help but wonder when it's all gonna come together," said Crossroads neighbor Patti Martin.
People packed the room to see the ideas the city has for redevelopment in and around the Crossroads.
"How will this not help the city of Omaha," asked Planning Director Rick Cunningham. "We have an area in the city that's not performing at its highest and best, it once did."
The area to be revitalized stretches from from Cass to Pacific, 69th to 78th streets.
"I think that this area is due for redevelopment but it has to be the right kind of redevelopment which is what we wanted to hear tonight," said Ernie Boykin, who came to look at the development options
After lots of questions and lots of answers the city and community hope with this plan the Crossroads will once again come to life.
A draft plan will go to the city planning board in February.
