Lincoln, NE - Two people have died from influenza, prompting an urgent warning from the Lancaster County Health Department:  get a flu shot!

Lancaster County Health Director Judy Halstead confirms one adult and one child died recently, neither was vaccinated.

More than thirty states report high numbers of flu cases; Nebraska reports 272 confirmed cases.  Last year at this time, Nebraska reported only thirteen cases.

Influenza symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, chills and body aches.  Children younger than five and older than 65 are at high risk for influenza.  Other risk groups include pregnant women, people with asthma and other respiratory diseases, lung or heart disease and persons under 19 who receive long-term aspirin therapy.

Many health insurance plans cover the flu vaccine, which is available from doctors and many pharmacies.
