One Dead in Old Market Shooting
Omaha, NE - Visitors to the Old Market Sunday morning got an unwelcoming surprise when they were greeted by a shut down parking lot and crime scene tape. That's because someone was killed at 11th and Harney Streets in an overnight shooting.
"What is going on in Omaha right now? There's so much violence," said Terry Westbrook of Omaha.
With the College World Series and hundreds of tourists in town, the city's 15th murder of the year couldn't have come at a worse time. Police tell us the first sign of trouble happened shortly after 2 A.M. That's when a bike patrol officer heard shots and saw people running. Moments later, the officer saw a man critically injured on the pavement.
"This is what happens when you don't understand how to resolve a conflict," said Westbrook.
Omaha Police say the victim was rushed to Creighton University Medical Center where he later died. Now, it's up to investigators to work around the clock and solve this murder mystery. It's the kind of mystery discouraging to residents and fathers like Westbrook.
"It's disappointing because a lot of kids won't have the same experience here that I did growing up."
Omaha Police have not yet released the name of the victim. First, they have to finish contacting the victim's family. No arrests have been made either.
