St. Ansgar, IA (AP) - Authorities say a 17-year-old driver was texting when her car rammed into the back of a school bus in north-central Iowa, killing her.

Mason City television station KIMT reports that Iowa State Patrol investigators checked the cellphone provider for 17-year-old Allison Smith and compared its records against video from the bus.

The accident occurred about 3:25 p.m. on Nov. 1, about three miles east of St. Ansgar.

Officers say the school bus was stopped on U.S. Highway 218 when it was hit by Smith's car. No other injuries were reported.

Smith was a junior at St. Ansgar High School.
