It is Derek Jeter's final season as the shortstop for the New York Yankees, and a star-studded commercial paying tribute to the baseball player is going viral.
The emotional commercial is from Nike's Air Jordan Brand, and features a variety of big names in sports and Hollywood and regular people such as firefighters, cooks, doormen, kids, and police officers.
Some of the most recognizable faces tipping their hats to Jeter are Jay Z, Spike Lee, Tiger Woods, Phil Jackson and Jeanie Buss, Rudy Guiliani, Tino Martinez, Mariano Rivera, Carmelo Anthony, Billy Crystal, Jon Lester and, of course, Michael Jordan.
One of the most touching parts of the commercial though is when a group of rival Red Sox fans tip their hats to the Yankee superstar. The appearance by the Mets players and mascot, with blurred faces and numbers, is more amusing than sweet.
The commercial will make its debut Tuesday, right before Jeter's final All-Star game. Jeter is hoping to go out on a high note. He could become the fifth player in history to win Most Valuable Player twice. That would put him in the company of baseball legends Willie Mays, Steve Garvey, Gary Carter and Cal Ripken, Jr.
The title of the commercial is "RE2PECT."
