Airlines are now being warned by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to be alert for toothpaste containers and cosmetic tubes when checking bags for passengers traveling on direct flights to Russia for the Olympics.
The containers are said to possibly hold ingredients that could be used to make a bomb on board.
Matthew Olsen, an U.S. counter-terrorism official, told CNN that "There are a number of specific threats of varying degrees of credibility that we're tracking. And we're working very closely with the Russians and with other partners to monitor any threats we see and to disrupt those."
Russia has since banned liquids from carry-on luggage in airlines.
