An unidentified woman in Nova Scotia, Canada, scaled a 10-foot barbed wire fence surrounding the Halifax Stanfield International Airport Sunday at around 8:30 a.m. local time in an attempt to prevent a plane from takeoff.
"Her intent was to stop the aircraft from taking off," Sgt. Al LeBlanc explains to CNN. "She jumped the security fence, but she was nowhere near the aircrafts. The airport staff and the Mounted Police responded right away and apprehended her." The woman was reportedly in the airfield for about 10 minutes.
The woman, 37, claimed that her husband was on an aircraft and that she was attempting to stop him. She was taken by local police to a hospital for minor injuries.
"This is a very rare occurrence. I have been here over eight years and this has never happened," Peter Spurway, Halifax Stanfield International Airport communications vice president, tells CNN.
LeBlanc further confirms that the woman's husband was not a passenger on any plane on-site. One small aircraft was rerouted from the area that she had trespassed.
