So far this season, the Boise Hawks have been living and dying by the long ball. Fortunately, Boise boasts some of the biggest bats in minor league baseball.
Through 23 games, the Hawks have hit 24 home runs. That total is the most in the Northwest League by a healthy margin (nine).
In fact, five of the top eight home run hitters in the Northwest League wear (or have worn) a Hawks uniform. Jeffrey Baez leads all sluggers with six. Jesse Hodges, Justin Marra, and Kyle Schwarber have each hit four, while Daniel Canela has put three pitches out of the park.
The Northwest League record for home runs in a season is 86, shared by Walla Walla in 1978 and Eugene in 1996.
