The Boise State men's tennis team (26-4) kicked off Mountain West Tournament play with a dominant 4-0 win over Utah State Thursday morning. The Broncos took the doubles point, then Toby Mitchell, Garrett Patton, and Brendan McClain all won singles in straight sets.
Top-seeded Boise State will face fourth-seeded Nevada in the semifinals on Saturday. The Broncos are ranked 24th in the country and are a lock for the NCAA Tournament, but head coach Greg Patton is wary of the competition at the Conference Tournament.
"New Mexico is nationally ranked. San Diego State has been in and out of it. Nevada and UNLV are really good," explained Patton. "They're all fighting for their lives because they've got to win the conference to go to the 'Big Dance.'"
"One of our goals is to get a third ring in a row," he added. "I've got to keep showing the bling to them and show them what we can have."
Seven Boise State tennis players were named to the All-Mountain West Team at the conference's awards banquet in Fresno Wednesday night.
Sandy Vo and Megan Lalone were named to the All-Mountain West Women's Team. The men had a league-high five players recognized- Andy Bettles, Nathan Sereke, Garrett Patton, Thomas Tenreiro, and Brendan McClain.
