From the blue to the Browns

Jamar Taylor was the only Bronco taken in this year's NFL Draft, but he's not the only Boise State alumnus getting a shot in the pros.

Tommy Smith inked a deal with the Cleveland Browns this week. Smith was an All-Mountain West honorable mention in his senior season, racking up 55 tackles at the linebacker spot- the third-most on the team.

Tommy worked out for the Atlanta Falcons and talked to the Miami Dolphins before being invited to Cleveland's rookie mini-camp as tryout player. He impressed the Browns' brass, and was offered a contract the following week.

Smith said he was frustrated about not getting a shot sooner, but he's grateful for the opportunity.

"It's the NFL, so we know how things work. It's a different league, you never know what's going to happen," explained Smith. "I have a great support system around me, and they calmed me down and I just kept working out. When they called, I was just elated. I was ready to go, ready to work."

Tommy will be in Cleveland this week for the Browns mandatory mini-camp, which runs Tuesday through Thursday (June 4-6).
