Parents criticize books, ACLU says 'keep it coming'

Each year, the American Library Association releases its list of the top 10 most challenged books in the country.  Last year, the group says it received hundreds of complaints from people wanting schools and libraries to either remove or restrict certain books from their shelves.

Parents didn’t like explicit sex scenes in bestsellers like Beloved, The Kite Runner and Fifty Shades of Grey.  Many even complained about the popular children’s book Captain Underpants.

Here in the Treasure Valley, things are a bit different.

We found that over the past two years, local libraries and school districts received only about a dozen complaints regarding children's books like Mammal and And Tango Makes Three

Good Morning Idaho spoke with ACLU Legal Director Ritchie Eppink about why the complaints are actually good for keeping a dialogue about free-flowing information open.
