Meridian Police officers are looking for the drivers of two vehicles involved in a strange hit-and-run accident that took place about 7:05 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Chinden Blvd. and Black Cat Road.

According to Meridian Police Department Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea, a driver of a white passenger car was heading eastbound on Chinden Blvd. when another vehicle, described as a “teal green passenger car,” pulled from the shoulder and began making a U-turn in the street.

In attempting to avoid hitting the car, the driver of the white car swerved into the oncoming lane -– and was struck broadside by the green vehicle.

The driver of the green vehicle then fled the scene on foot.

As the driver and witnesses were waiting for police to arrive, they discovered the license plate of the teal car wedged in the side door of the damaged vehicle.

A blue Volkswagen Jetta then appeared on the scene. “A male passenger got out of the car and told those who were waiting at the scene that he, too, had witnessed the accident,” said Basterrechea.

But then the man snatched the license plate and quickly left the scene.

“Witnesses describe him as a heavy-set man with a dark complexion and short dark hair. He is believed to be in his twenties and stood about 6-foot-2,” Basterrechea said.

No one was injured.

The vehicles sustained minor damage.
