When it comes to summertime activities here in the Gem State, camping is a favorite for a lot of folks. But many of us tend to gravitate to the same camping spots, over and over, because they're what we know! So Good Morning Idaho went Out & About to find some new ideas for places to pitch your tent or pop up your camper.
For example, did you know Idaho Power owns and maintains campgrounds at all of its area reservoirs? They go from American Falls in eastern Idaho all the way across the state to Hells Canyon. At Hells Canyon you'll find dozens of tent and RV sites that include shade, grassy picnic areas, full bathrooms and even showers! There are also boat ramps, docks, and plenty of good fishing. Hells Canyon is also the deepest river gorge in all of North America, which makes it incredibly scenic. Fred Noland with Idaho Power says they take pride in offering up comfortable, accessible places for people to recreate, and he explains most are within a few hours of Boise. "Hells Canyon is about 3 hours from here depending on which park you want to go to in Hells Canyon, we have several. And Swan Falls is about 45 minutes and we're doing all new developments out there so you'll have camping and boat launches and all that. CJ Strike is about an hour and 15 minutes, and you're going to find full service parks there too with boat ramps and fishing accesses. "
Besides those hidden gems, we also put out the call on Facebook for all of our viewers to recommend their favorite camping spots, and we got some great suggestions! Look for this post on our Good Morning Idaho page to see the entire list for yourself, and leave a suggestion of your own while you're there.
