UPDATE: Missing college student Lucius Robbi found dead; family issues statement

By Chris Oswalt . CREATED Aug 28, 2014

The family of missing college student Lucius Robbi is expressing their gratitude to everyone who was involved in the search for Robbi after the 21 year old was found dead.

Tina Glaessner, Robbi’s mother, posted on the Finding Lucius Facebook, “the family of Lucius Robbi wants to thank all of the many friends who came together to search for him. You were all amazing, and the overwhelming outpouring of love and the heroic effort you made to find Lucius created a bond between you and all of us that will connect us forever. We are touched as well by the support of so many who did not even know our family, but showed their humanity and tremendous generosity at such a difficult time through countless acts of kindness”.

The Boise County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to On Your Side reporter Chris Oswalt that Robbi and his car had been found in Custer County. In a news release, they say Robbi lost control of his car on Highway 21 near Stanley Lake. He crossed the northbound lanes of traffic and traveled down a 60-foot embankment.

The sheriff's office says they had searched the area once before but thick brush made it difficult to see the car. In the news release, officials said “This area had been searched by ground personnel in vehicles and fixed-wing aircraft. A private contracted helicopter searching for Robbi spotted the tip of a Kayak in the trees and was able to investigate the area further. Recovery personnel stated that when they arrived on scene they could not see the vehicle from the roadway and it was not until the brush was removed that they could get a clear view of the accident scene. Thunderstorms and wet weather in the area obscured the vehicle tracks and debris that would have been left behind in the soft roadside shoulder”.

On the Facebook page, a family friend posted her “heart goes out to all who had the pleasure of knowing him”.

Robbi was last seen August 19 as he set off for school at the University of Montana in Missoula. His co-workers at Cascade Raft and Kayak near Banks were the last to see him before he left for Missoula.

They say he planned to explore along the way, even bringing along two Orange kayaks. The plan was drive halfway, camp someplace, and maybe do a day hike. Volunteers from all over the country flocked to Idaho to look for Robbi. It is unclear exactly where or who found the missing college student.
