I-84 will undergo name change starting on Tuesday, August 12th
The main freeway that cuts through southern Idaho known as I-84 will have a new name starting on Tuesday, August 12th.
The change will occur from Idaho’s Oregon border to the Utah border and will be called the Vietnam's Veterans Memorial Highway.
The bill for the highway designation was introduced to the Idaho Legislature on Jan. 22 and signed by Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter on Feb. 20. It became effective on July 1.
Sen. Lee Heider, Twin Falls, sponsored the bill and helped to get it passed.
The I-84 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway begins in Oregon and will run through Idaho. There are plans to eventually continue the designation into Utah.
