Hiker rescued from foothills

By Jake Melder. CREATED Nov 30, 2013

The Boise Fire Department and Ada County Paramedics responded to a distress call a little after one o’clock Saturday afternoon.

Two people were hiking in the foothills near Bogus Basin. When one of them slipped on a rock, she suffered an injury that left her unable to walk.

The paramedic team was able to reach the hiker within a couple hours. The problem was getting her out. Muddy roads left one vehicle stuck and required rescuers to use ATVs to complete the mission.

After a few hours, the hiker was safely brought out. She sustained a major cut below her knee that tore a tendon.

"The obstacles of this were getting access to the patient, getting the patient out of the area where she had been injured, and safely back on to the roadway to have transport to the hospital," said Tom Pawek of BFD.

The name of the hiker has not been released. The rescue mission took about five hours to complete, because of the hard terrain. Medical personnel on scene believe the hiker will remain in good condition.
