Expo Idaho officials Monday announced major renovation plans for the facility, with work to begin soon after the Western Idaho Fair ends August 24.

“The grand entrance will include ticket booths, guest service offices, a will-call window, entry ways, and additional restroom facilities,” said Fair Director Bob Batista. “The current administrative office is 40 years old, and a new administrative office will be built to replace the current offices.”

“Our goal is to have a spruced-up entry -- an entry that will wow our visitors -- with landscaping, trees, a big sign, and areas where Expo Idaho patrons can congregate without feeling like they are standing in the street,” Batista added, referring to the paved lanes that currently run in front of the Expo Idaho administration offices and ticket booths.

“The initial plan is for the new entrance and administrative office to be completed by June 1, 2015,” Batista stated, noting that the last improvements to the grounds involved in construction of the Western Town Building.

Fair officials promise that the construction won’t interfere with general operations of the facility.

“We have coordinated with the project contractor, as well as with the vendors and promoters of the shows and events that will be held on the grounds and in the expo buildings between now and June, to make sure that the project does not displace any of those events,” Batista said.

The project is estimated to cost $1.8 million, which Expo Idaho is funding.

Expo Idaho is a self-funded entity of Ada County. Over the past decade, Expo Idaho has been generating revenue in order to construct a new grand entrance and administrative office.

The Western Idaho Fair runs August 15-24.
