Early morning fire nearly destroys Caldwell business
CALDWELL - Firefighters called immediately for help when seeing the flames at Gem State Marble in Caldwell. The two-alarm fire brought in trucks from Caldwell, Nampa, Middleton, Parma and Star to try and control the flames.
The owner was working early in a storage area of the building when a small chemical spill caused a reaction with another chemical igniting the flames. Firefighters were very concerned about drums of flammable chemicals inside.
"The guys did an amazing job," said Battalion chief Tim Cook, "I can't tell you a couple times we were ready to pull the plug and as you see this building is standing and in good shape."
Using foam and ladder trucks firefighters were able to vent the roof of the building which aided in getting the flames out in less than an hour.
The owner was able to get out of the building without injury.
