Dog attacked by mountain lion in west Boise

A German shorthaired pointer is recovering after a mountain lion attack in a west Boise neighborhood.

The attack occurred on the morning of Wednesday 8/27/2014 at the corner of West Hill Road and North Collister Drive.

According to the dog owner heard the dog yelping in the backyard and ran back into the home.

The witness saw a mountain lion crouched in the back porch and ran away.

Fish and Game conservation officer Bill London responded and believes, “It’s likely a yearling lion, on its own for the first time in its life,” London noted. “Finding sufficient food can be difficult, and young lions often view domestic pets as easy meals.”

Mountain lion sightings should be reported immediately to the Fish and Game Southwest Region Office in Nampa at 208-465-8465. After normal business hours, report mountain lion sightings by calling the Ada County Sheriff’s non-emergency dispatch line at 208-377-6790.
