Beware of bikers on the road

With warmer temperatures heading our way, motorcyclists are dusting off their bikes and taking them for a ride.

Multiple recent accidents involving motorcyclists serves as a reminder to both drivers and bikers, to take extra precautions on the road.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office released Friday 33 year old Steven Moore died of blunt force trauma, after being hit by a car while riding his motorcycle Monday.

Instructors with the Idaho STAR program say 20 percent of fatal car-on-bike accidents occur because of an error in the driver of the vehicle. A vast majority of fatalities  are associated with rider error and incidents that can be avoided.

We say riding a motorcycle is 80% mental and 20% physical,” training instructor Brian Greber said. “So if you're not out there looking for the hazards, planning your reaction to each and every hazard, you will become surprised and you will respond inappropriately."

Greber encourages all bikers, regardless of their experience level, to take part in training courses at the start of riding season, especially if they haven’t been riding through the winter months.

He also says it’s extremely important to dress prepared for anything, including protective pants, jackets, reflective hear and, of course, a helmet.
