Neither Ria, 78, nor An, 71, had ever flown, so Vodafone selected them to make just that happen. As part of its "First" ad campaign, the phone company documents the grandmothers' first plane ride.
"All around us people are doing things for the first time and we want to help them get there. We want to share their stories, because when technology and human endeavor come together, amazing things happen," describes Vodafone's website. "These incredible stories, and others like them, are here to inspire and encourage people to take that leap and maybe even find their own first."
Watch above as spitfire Ria prepares for the flight by going on a roller coaster with her granddaughter Daisy, while worrywart An sits on a mock airplane via a virtual reality headset.
The women, both from the Netherlands, meet at the airport for the first time to share in this first experience together.
And where do they go? To the sunny beaches of Barcelona.
