Tips to make your home safe from crooks

By Stella Inger. CREATED Nov 19, 2013

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Your home might not be as safe from crooks as you think, but you can make yourself less of a target.

Just because you have an alarm system, it doesn't mean you're safe. Here are some tips from the experts.

Start outside. Keep your shrubs short and secure sliding glass doors or big picture windows.

Inside, don't hide your jewelry in your bedroom. That's the first place a burglar will look.

Charge your cell phone next to your bed for easy access, and even consider a one-sided deadbolt on your closet door so you can hide.

The most important thing you can do is know your neighbors and their cars. And when you're traveling this holiday season, don't post your travel plans on social media.

I'm Stella Inger. I hope you'll join Guy Atchley and me tonight at 5 ... 6.. and 10. You can always join the conversation at, Facebook and Twitter.

Have a great day!
