Teasing friends in the frozen North

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - There are people in Tucson right now who want to be nowhere near snow.   That's why they came here in the first place.

It's only natural. For people from the now-frozen north, the more misery there, the more they like it right here.

The weather Tucson has now is our reward for those blistering days last summer.

Tucsonan Chris Phillips holds his arm near his collarbone as he says, "We could be back East, this deep in snow."
Oh yeah!  Its time for the sunscreen.

And the only ice you want to have around is swirling in a cold drink.
Visitors like Lorraine Cox can't help teasing freezing friends back home in Canada.

"Oh, absolutely.  I post every day what the temperature is," she laughed.

KGUN9 reporter Craig Smith asked her: "And what do you get back in response?"

Cox: "Shut up."
At Loews Ventana Canyon, they're sun bathing, and swimming in late January.

John Weatherston was sunning himself, and thinking of conditions back home in St. Paul, Minnesota.  He says, "I just talked to my pizza shop.  It's snowing; and it's blowing, and it's cold and it's miserable."

Pam Jones is happy to have escaped Pennsylvania.

"Bback home in Philadelphia, I believe it was below zero when we left.  And it's what, 80? And we're drinking Prickly Pear Margaritas. Can't get any better than that.">

We thought about visiting the airport to find people headed back north, but we just didn't want to see grown people cry.
