TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) An east side family is quite literally picking up the pieces after a strong monsoon storm blew the roof clear off their home, Tuesday.
It happened on the 300 block of North Schrader -- near the intersection of Broadway and Bonanza. A spokesperson for the Tucson Fire Department says around 2:30 p.m., a neighbor called 911 after seeing a portion of her next door neighbor's roof lift clear-off the home. Neighbor Alyx Hill, who spoke with 9OYS, says within a few seconds, the rest of the roof began to curl up like a wave of insulation and debris.
"Then I saw the top of the roof, a piece on the far right side kind of came up and the rest of it just flopped right over to the other side of the house," Hill said.
TFD says wind also lifted a portion of the home's natural gas line. Southwest gas crews inspected the home and found no signs of leaks.
"It was really scary. I mean, we thought it would travel all the way to our yard but it was almost like it hit the house and it was done," Hill continued.
Neighbors believe the damage could be the result of a microburst. No one was injured.
