State schools chief to address media on blog posts
PHOENIX (AP) - State Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal has called a press conference to address anonymous blog posts that denigrate welfare recipients and others that are seen by some as racist.
Huppenthal will speak to the media Wednesday afternoon at his office near the state Capitol.
The Republican issued an apology last week for blog posts where he called welfare recipients "lazy pigs" and said Planned Parenthood was the cause of abortions among African-Americans.
Since then, new posts have been uncovered where he said there should be no Spanish-language media outlets and that English should be the only language used in the United States.
Huppenthal faces a Republican challenger in the August primary. Two Democrats are vying for the right to take on the winner of that race in November.
