Southern Arizona agencies lift fire restrictions
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The arrival of the monsoon season has prompted the lifting of fire restrictions by federal and state officials across southeastern Arizona.
Restrictions were lifted Friday for all of the Coronado National Forest, Saguaro National Park, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, the Bureau of Land Management's Gila District and other sites.
The Arizona State Forestry Division also lifted all fire restrictions on lands under its jurisdiction.
Officials say due to widespread precipitation and additional rain in the forecast, the likelihood of wildfire has lessened to the degree that the restrictions can be rescinded.
Still, officials were warning visitors to be cautious. That includes putting out campfires before leaving an area. They say fires should be doused with water and dirt and stirred with a shovel until completely cold to the touch.
