Scammers using Obamacare to steal identities

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A new warning has gone out about scammers claiming to be representatives of health care and obtaining personal information over the phone.

The Better Business Bureau of Southern Arizona says the scammers call individuals saying they are eligible for health insurance cards in exchange for personal information.

The BBB says people should ignore these calls because information given could put you at risk for identity theft.

The scammers are asking for information like bank account numbers and social security numbers, which they can sell or use it to access your accounts.

The BBB says if you get one of these calls, do not give them any information, instead just hang up.

They also say the government rarely communicates via phone calls, they normally use regular postal service mail to communicate. Do not give your information to anyone who claims to be the government over email, phone or text.

More information and tips can be found on the BBB website.
