TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A family is recovering tonight after their vehicle was swept away by quick-rising flood waters near Willcox.

Carol Capas with the Cochise County Sheriff's Department tells KGUN9 that a vehicle got stuck in a flooded wash on Old Stewart Road, north of Willcox just after 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

The CCSO's Search and Rescue Team responded to the area and located a Hummer in the middle of the roadway with approximately four feet of water running over it, Capas said.

A man and woman were stranded in the vehicle with their two children, according to Capas.

Rescue crews tied a rope between the rescue vehicle and the flooded Hummer and then took the two young girls to safety, Capas said. Crews then rescued the husband and wife.

Once he was safe, the man told rescuers that his house was flooded and rain was up to their wastes. That is when the man decided to put his family in their car and drive to safety, according to Capas.

The man was driving toward Willcox when the roadway flooded, causing the family's vehicle to flood as well. The man then called 9-1-1 for help, Capas said.

No one was injured during the rescue.

The family is now in Willcox making housing arrangements for the night, according to Capas.
