TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - An 11 month investigation called "Operation Smack Talk" resulted in the seizure of 89 pounds of white heroin and the arrest of seven people.

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge, Doug Coleman, announced that the seizure marks one of the Arizona's biggest heroin busts.

The investigation targeted a large-scale Mexican heroin trafficking organization responsible for distributing hundreds of pounds of heroin from Tucson to different cities on the west coast.

On June 13, DEA Special Agents, with the help of Homeland Security Investigations and TPD, performed a federal search on a suspected stash house in Tucson  where agents found the heroin load hidden inside a bedroom closet.

The smuggled heroin came from Mexico using hidden compartments in several vehicles then driven to a residence in the Tucson area.

DEA agents seized a total of 123 pounds of high-grade heroin with a street value of over $7.5 million dollars during the 11 month investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and seven vehicles were seized along with $300,000.00 in drug money.

"Operation Smack Talk" was led by the DEA Tucson District Office, Homeland Security Investigations in Tucson, the Tucson Police Department, and the Marana Police Department.

The suspects have trafficking charges filed against them.

All seven defendants were remanded to the U.S. Marshal's Service and remain in custody.
