TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Firefighters responded to a house fire on the northwest side Thursday afternoon.

Capt. Adam Goldberg with the Northwest Fire District tells us a house in the 4300 block of Pyracantha caught fire.

He tells KGUN9 that a woman's neighbor decided to clear the woman's weeds using an open torch.

When the woman left for work, she didn't realize that the weeds were still burning.

The fire quickly spread to the garage, and later, to the home.

The fire caused about $45,000 dollars in damage.

The woman is now staying with relatives.
