Neighbor, firefighter injured in mobile home fire
MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Both a neighbor and a firefighter received minor injuries Saturday while trying to fight a mobile home fire on the northwest side.
Capt. Adam Goldberg with Northwest Fire tells KGUN9 the fire broke out just after 1:00 p.m. near Marana and I-10.
The first crews on scene found a single wide mobile home that was almost fully on fire.
Neighbors said this was an abandoned home. Crews on scene fought the fire defensively to stop the fire from reaching neighboring homes. They were able to contain it within several feet of the house next door.
A swamp cooler on the roof presented a hazard to firefighters, who could not go inside the home. They fought the fire from outside, and soon after they began, the swamp cooler fell into the building.
Twenty-six firefighters controlled the fire within 21 minutes after arriving on scene.
A neighbor who had tried to fight the fire prior to crews arriving received minor injuries, along with a firefighter who received minor burns.
They were both taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. The trailer is considered a total loss.
