Man dies from injuries in Phoenix apartment fire
PHOENIX (AP) - A man has died from injuries suffered in a Phoenix apartment fire.
Cause of the fire late Monday night at a complex in northwest Phoenix is under investigation, but investigators say it apparently started in the kitchen.
The Fire Department says a smoke detector was found in the apartment but that it didn't have a battery installed.
A neighbor called 911 when the neighbor's smoke alarm activated.
Investigators said the victim was found in a second-floor bedroom of the two-story apartment and appeared to be trying to escape the fire before he was overcome.
Crews were able to put out the fire before it spread to other units.
