Heavy rains in Flagstaff area close part of I-40
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Heavy rains sweeping through parts of northern Arizona forced the closure of a stretch of Interstate 40 Saturday evening and prompted a flash flood watch.
The Arizona Department of Transportation says an 18-mile stretch of the roadway was closed west of Flagstaff because the roadway is flooded.
The agency says that interstate was shut down about 6:30 p.m., and had been fully reopened less than three hours later.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says a flash flood watch is in effect until 11 p.m. for the Flagstaff area.
