Police: Man arrested for sexual assault of teen
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Police arrested a 28-year-old man as a suspect in the sexual assault case where a 16-year-old girl interrupted a burglary.
Sgt. Chris Widmer with Tucson Police tells KGUN9 that Peter Isaac Trujillo was arrested in two separate investigations, after police linked the sexual assault to several shoplifting incidents.
Police say a 16-year-old girl was approached by a man at about 3:10 p.m. on August 19 inside her home in the 800 block of Santa Maria, near Interstate 19 and Valencia Road.
Police say the man sexually assault her and then ran from the home. The girl was not injured.
During the course of the investigation into the sexual assault, detectives learned that the description of the man was similar to a man wanted for shoplifting at various convenience stores, including several Circle K stores.
Detectives were able to get a license plate of a vehicle believed to be associated with the man, and it was similar to the description the 16-year-old girl gave detectives on Monday.
Trujillo was located with his vehicle in a shipping center in the 5500 block of south 12th Avenue.
He was arrested on the sexual assault charge and also for several counts of shoplifting.
He was taken to the Pima County Jail.
This arrest was a collaborative effort between patrol officers working in Operations Division South, officers of the ODS Community Response Team and detectives from the Child Sexual Assault Unit.
