"Distasteful": THCC condemns state's school chief comments
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -- The Tucson Hispanic Chamber has joined business leaders condemning Arizona's school chief's controversial comments.
John Huppenthal broke down in tears last month after apologizing for controversial remarks about low-income and minority people.
THCC President Lea Marquez Peterson issued a statement -- calling Huppenthal's blog comments -- inappropriate and distasteful. "By his statements he shown complete disregard for the rich diversity of the school children his office supports. He fuels the misperception that our residents support bigotry and completely lack the sensitivity to embrace the growing demographic changes in our region."
Peterson said the he voiced opinions that do not reflect the opinions of his constituents and "he must be held accountable for his inflammatory comments."
Huppenthal has said he will *not resign over the blog posts and is continuing his plans for re-election.
