TUCSON (KGUN9-TV)- Santa made a special stop at Tucson Medical Center on Christmas Eve, along with his elves from the Department of Public Safety.
DPS officers collected teddy bears all year just for this Christmas Eve event.
"We try to brighten the days to the kids who are not going to be home for Christmas," said Kevin McNichols with The Department of Public Safety.
Children recovering at Tucson Medical Center were very grateful for not only a teddy bear, but a nice, warm knitted cap. McNichols said a simple toy goes a long way.
"The thing that goes through my mind the most is just being thankful for the things that I have and it give us an opportunity to share and brighten their day when things aren't going to so well," he said.
Santa left special toys for babies still sleeping during his visit.
This is the 20th year DPS has collected teddy bears for children. Tuesday they visited children at Tucson Medical Center and University of Arizona Medical Center.
