Dark purple Amethyst among new items at this year's Gem and Mineral Show
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Ralph Hilton traveled almost 2,500 miles to buy a dark purple mineral.
"The trick is to find the right ones," he said. "The deep, deep purple color, no flaws."
Hilton owns a store in New York, and came to this year's show specifically for the Uruguayan Amethyst, a new item for gem show visitors this year.
"People like to see something different and this year the Uruguayan Amethyst is different," said Jay Gehring who owns Village Originals.
Gehring says the Uruguayan Amethyst along with Brazilian jewelry and Black Amethyst are his newest items.
You can also expect a lot of jewelry this year, and plenty of unique items like copper splashes made right here in Arizona.
"You take a molten copper and you splash it onto a very cold clean surface and it comes out in this beautiful design," said Lisa Gagne, who owns Antero Minerals.
If you're looking for something a little larger in size, GeoDecor has the first authentic, fully mounted T-Rex on public display, for the first time in Tucson, at 1635 N. Oracle Rd.
