Crews to power wash streetcar rail before DOT inspection
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - With the final piece of rail in place, Sun Link streetcar crews are now preparing for a Tucson Department of Transportation inspections.
In advance of that DOT inspection, this week crews are power washing the entire streetcar rail from the University of Arizona campus to the west side.
Crews began electrical testing on the overhead cables last week as the project transitions from the construction to the operation phase. The system is scheduled to be up and running by Sept. 2014 and the first car arrives for testing later this month.
Workers will use a high-pressure water spray to clean the rail.
Traffic detours will only be in the immediate areas of the cleaning, streetcar project officials said.
Other minor traffic delays might result from crews adding temporary striping along different stretches of the streetcar rail.
From 9 p.m. Tuesday night through 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, parking will not be allowed along University Blvd. between 4th Ave. and Euclid because of the striping.
