TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Vandals target a Tucson school while students are out on spring break the school's security camera caught them in the act!
In footage you will only see on Nine On Your Side, you can see the criminals at BASIS Tucson North, near River and Craycroft roads. One jumped the fence and spray painted sexual drawings on the school windows.
But that's not all they did. A concerned parent contacted Nine On Your Side about what he called "escalating serial vandalism."
Nine On Your Side found out from the school that it is the fourth time in a year it's been targeted! But this time -- by far -- is the worst.
Eggs are splattered all over BASIS' 2-story windows. But the worst of it: hate speech; racial slurs; and sexual drawings are all too vulgar to show.
It happened Saturday night around 11, but no one noticed until Monday when landscapers came to the school.
The school is hoping to clean the damage before students get back from spring break. They say it'll cost them thousands of dollars. But some students have already seen their school defiled.
"It's just hard to explain how upset and not good and not cool this is," said Isabella Fisher, a sixth grader at BASIS.
"No child should have to walk into school and see racial slurs painted on the walls and see that their building has been vandalized," said Erin Paradis, head of operations. "It's a home for the students throughout the school year and it needs to be a safe place for them."
And safety -- the parents primary concern -- when their child's school, that's ranked one of the best in the country, is being targeted and tagged.
"I think it's very important to find out who they are why they're doing it," said BASIS parent Dick Fisher.
"This is not just some destructive joke," Paradis said. "This is hurtful to the community. It's just escalated to a point where it has to stop we need help from our neighbors; we need help from anyone in the community to make sure this doesn't happen again."
Police say it is criminal damage and the school has filed a report. If you recognize the people from the surveillance footage or know who did it, call 911 or 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
