Casa Grande couple arrested for growing 411 pot plants

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Authorities arrested a Casa Grande couple Wednesday for growing 411 marijuana plants.
Pinal County Sheriff's deputies arrested Rommel and Carol Nabayan at their home, in the 18000 block of West Hopi Drive, just outside the Casa Grande city limits. Rommel, 53, held an expired medical marijuana card. Carol, his wife, is 50. The couple were growing the plants inside their home.
The marijuana plants were valued at $400,000. Detectives also found nine pounds of cultivated marijuana, packaged for sale, worth $4,500, as well as two handguns, a shotgun, ledgers pertaining to their operation and $15,000 in cash.
Rommel told deputies he grew the plants as an "experiment" and gives away for free the marijuana he doesn't smoke. Carol said she knew of the operation but was not responsible for it.
Both Nabayans were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, production of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They are in custody at the Pinal County Jail, both on $25,000 bonds.
