CBP officers nap multiple drug smugglers

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers made arrests in two separate incidents of attempts to smuggle drugs across the border.

CBP arrested 40-year-old Mexican national, Jorge Enrique Diaz-Lopez, after a narcotics canine discovered eight packages of heroin hidden under the backseat of Diaz-Lopez's Nissan truck.

The heroin weighed nearly 18 pounds, and had an estimated value of $244,147.

CBP officers also arrested an 18-year-old Tucson woman after officers located more than 130 packages of marijuana hidden throughout her Lincoln sedan.

Officers found the drugs hidden in the trunk; rear quarter panels; inside the front and rear seats; the engine compartment and front bumper.

The drugs weighed more than 140 pounds  and had an estimated value of $66,290.

Diaz and the Tucson woman were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
